I'm a boss Reader

Image
Currently Reading: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed. Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her family. What everyone wants to know is: what really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr. But what Starr does—or does not—say could upend her community. It could also endanger her life. Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, this is a powerful and gripping YA novel about one girl's struggle for justice. ( Goodread.com ) Previous

Book Review~ Maniac Magee

Image
Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli Published April 28 2002 Scholastic   Jeffrey Lionel "Maniac" Magee might have lived a normal life if a freak accident hadn't made him an orphan. After living with his unhappy and uptight aunt and uncle for eight years, he decides to run--and not just run away, but run. This is where the myth of Maniac Magee begins, as he changes the lives of a racially divided small town with his amazing and legendary feats. ( Goodreads.com )    I loved this book a lot. The main character Jeffrey notices that he doesn't think that anyone around him is black nor white. Through out the story the author talks about having a racially divided town. One side has all white people and the other has all black. But Jeffrey looks at race in a different lens. In the book the author repeatedly talks about addresses because in this sentimental book Jeffrey wants an address with a loving family. This book has so many sentimental heart warming parts in it,

Throwback Thursday~ The Boxcar Children

Image
The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner Published January 1 1989 Albert Whitman Company The Aldens begin their adventure by making a home in a boxcar. Their goal is to stay together, and in the process they find a grandfather. ( Goodreads.com )  For this week's throwback Thursday I decided to talk about The Boxcar Children collection. I loved these books since I was young. It always made me feel like I have an adventure that's waiting for me. A good adventure filled with laughs and a tiny bit of suspense. I've loved reading these books, in fact I think I will be reading these books to my children someday. I really like how the collection has mini adventure that may seem a bit creepy at first but by the end is just fun and silly. I also like how the vocabulary in each book is just right for kids in elementary and even middle school. Once in a while I still, to this read these books.

( Goodreads.com ) I have never read this book before, but have enjoyed watching the Netflix's production of the book. I didn't even know that there was a book based off the produciton Netflix made. I guess you could say that this is one kind of romance book which then was made into a m
